Moving Countries. Moving Houses.
Remember I blogged about meeting up with my best friends a few days ago and we caught up with each other and talked over coffee like there is no tomorrow? Well, that tight circle of friends actually was missing one member – and unfortunately, she is working in the UK, as a nurse, earning pounds and euros equal to 80 times over our measly currency. While she is earning so much, we always lament the fact that there is no future for us here and she always reminds us she would be willing to trade places with us if only she can get to be home during the holidays. Loneliness and depression are the worst enemies when you are working on a foreign land.
However, she is kept busy these days because she finally was able to move out on a house of her own. And while she is alone, moving houses in the UK is much easier because there are moving services she can hire. She just needs to pack her stuff by herself, but the hauling of furniture and unpacking are done by the removal company. She just scouted which was the best among the removal quotes she received. She even told us that all the basic utilities – gas, electricity, phone and internet lines and even house locks, are taken cared of BEFORE moving. And while here in the country, your utilities are fixed per household, in the UK, your utilities account move with you as you transfer. So all the utilities are under her name. (I’d really love that here). And mind you, all these are tips she got online through a site called MoveMe.com – as very apt, don’t you think? They are often called the man and van as well.
She has sought the help of a financial advisor to teach her all she needs to know about mortgages and the legalities of HIPs (Home Information Packs), as she sold her old house.
She has moved at the border of the city close to the countryside and loves the area she has called her new home. She can imagine growing old there and having kids. But first, she needs to find a man who will father hers
